Charlie Reader is a writer and director of films, music videos and commercials, splitting his time between London and Barcelona. Starting his professional career at Academy Films, he cut his teeth making music videos and commercial content, working with clients such as Belstaff, Vodafone, Sony Music and PMR. After being featured in Promo News’ list of Top Directors in 2014, he continued working in music videos collaborating with several established names such as Peace, Dan Croll and SG Lewis. His most recent video for band 11, saw him nominated at the 2018 UKMVA's.
Developing his taste for narrative, Reader further developed his storytelling skills, putting pen to paper and teaming up with award-winning screenwriter Peter Fellows (The Death of Stalin, VEEP). As a writing partnership between the two began, Charlie developed one of his fever dream ideas into the script for ‘Everything You Didn’t Say’ - his first short and narrative script. Teaming up for production with COMPULSORY in the UK, the film stars Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace) and Christian Cooke (Cemetery Junction). Currently doing the festival circuit, 'Everything You Didn't Say' has been tipped as a hot new short by a director to watch and attracted a wide online following after a successful Kickstarter campaign.
In whichever form his work manifests , Charlie likes to experiment with narrative form and study the intricacies of the human condition. Whether through touching sincerity or comic cynicism, he aims to question, confront, and provoke.
He is currently working on a number of exciting scripted projects, including his first feature.
Charlie is represented for film and commercials in the UK by COMPULSORY, and Zoe Wheeler for Music Videos.
